In winter your dog walks on salt and ice, in summer on pavement that burns, and all of it without socks or shoes. Paw pads dry out and get rough. Mala od lavande Paw balm leaves a thin protective layer on them against cold, salt and heat, and keeps them soft between walks. We make it by hand in small batches from olive oil, shea butter, beeswax, carnauba wax, jojoba and calendula, with no water, no fragrance and no essential oils.
What the paw balm is used for
- Winter walks on snow and salt – a thin layer before you head out protects the pads from the salted road.
- Summer walks on hot pavement – apply it before the walk, when the pavement has been heated by the sun.
- Dry, rough paw pads – after the walk, as needed, it keeps the pads soft.
- A dry nose tip – the nose can dry out in winter, and the balm may be applied there too.
What salt, ice and pavement do to paw pads
The salt spread on roads and pavements in winter dries out the skin of the pads, and cold, dry air draws out even more moisture. In summer, pavement in the sun gets hot. When the pads dry out, they become hard and rough, and small cracks can appear.
That is why the balm is deliberately firm, with more wax than a cream, so a thin layer stays on the paw longer. Beeswax forms a protective layer on the skin, and carnauba, a plant wax, makes the balm harder.
No fragrance and no essential oils
Your dog will almost certainly lick its paws after you apply the balm. We took that into account when choosing the ingredients: there is no fragrance, no essential oils and nothing that is there only for scent. There is no water and no preservatives either, so the balm is concentrated and a thin layer is enough.

- Olive oil – the base of the balm, softens the skin of the pads.
- Shea butter – rich care for dry, rough skin.
- Beeswax and carnauba wax – form a protective layer and give the balm its firmness.
- Jojoba oil – a light oil that absorbs well.
- Calendula macerate – dried calendula flowers steeped in olive oil. Calendula is a plant with a long tradition in dry skin care.
- Vitamin E – a natural antioxidant that keeps the oils from going rancid.

Storage
At room temperature, away from heat sources. In the warmth the balm softens, and in the cold it firms up again. That is a sign of natural wax, not a flaw. The best-before date is printed on the jar.
Special precautions
For external use on dogs only. Not for cats. Do not apply to open wounds. Avoid contact with eyes. If redness or irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a vet. Keep out of reach of children.

When should I apply the paw balm?

How much balm do I need?
Very little. A thin layer is enough, and the balm spreads more easily if you first warm it between your fingers.
What if my dog licks the balm?
Dogs lick their paws, and we took that into account when choosing the ingredients, which is why the balm is fragrance-free and has no essential oils. Apply a thin layer and rub it in well.
Why is the balm so firm?
Because of the beeswax and carnauba wax. With more wax, a thin layer stays on the paw longer. In the warmth the balm softens, and in the cold it firms up again.
Paw balm or paw cream – what is the difference?
The balm contains no water; it is made from oils, butter and wax, so it is firmer than a cream and a thin layer stays on the paw longer. A cream contains water and absorbs faster. We make a balm.
Can I put the balm on my dog's nose?
Yes, on the dry tip of the nose. Just make sure it doesn't get into the eyes.
Can I put the balm on a wound?
No. Do not apply the balm to open wounds. If redness or irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a vet.

How to use
Before the walk:
In winter: before a walk on snow and salted roads, apply a thin layer to clean, dry paw pads and rub it in gently.
In summer: the same way, before a walk on hot pavement.
After the walk:
Dry, rough paw pads: a thin layer on clean, dry pads, as needed.
As needed:
Dry nose tip: a little balm, making sure it doesn't get into the eyes.
A little is enough: warm the balm between your fingers and it spreads more easily.
